CHARLIE ROSE: Roger Rosenblatt is here. He is a friend, he is a
journalist, he is an author, he is a playwright, and he is a teacher. His
new book is called "Making Toast." It is a tribute to his daughter Amy who
died suddenly of a rare heart condition in December, 2007.
Roger Rosenblatt and his wife moved in with Amy’s husband and their
three small children after her death. When his granddaughter Jesse asked
him how long they would be staying, he said "Forever."

ROGER ROSENBLATT, AUTHOR: Thank you, Charlie.
CHARLIE ROSE: This has got to be a hard book to write.
ROGER ROSENBLATT: You know, it’s funny -- because I’m a writer it
wasn’t as hard to write as it was to see come to fruition, to be published.
The writing started with a piece in the "New Yorker," and that piece
was guided by David Remnick, who said something not only wise but in terms
of practical advice, indispensable. He said "When you write this story,
write with more grace than pain," "more grace than pain."
